Katherine Usher

Couples Therapist & Psychotherapeutic Counsellor (MBACP)

Hello. I’m Katherine, a couples therapist and psychotherapeutic counsellor, working online across the UK.

My Approach

My work is rooted in the belief that we all possess the capacity for growth, and that insight is the starting point for positive change. I work with people who wish to make sense of their current difficulties in order to move forward with clarity and confidence.

Central to my approach is exploring how our past influences our present (psychodynamic theories) and the significance of connection and relationship. I have a particular interest in working with people who are experiencing difficulties within their personal relationships and wish to discuss this, but welcome anyone looking to explore themselves further.

I provide an empathic and straightforward approach to therapy, giving you a space where you can explore yourself or your relationship openly. The process is collaborative, explorative and dynamic and we’ll find ways of working that suit you. My goal is to help you make sense of your world and leave therapy feeling more connected with yourself, and able to connect more fully with those around you.

Couples Therapy & Counselling

I help couples and partners to explore the complexities of their relationship, and of each other. This might include exploring your relationship dynamics, communication, conflict resolution, intimacy issues, infidelity, re-establishing trust and connection and relationship enrichment.

You may feel stuck or at a crisis point, or perhaps there is one specific aspect of your relationship you’d like to work on; relationship therapy is not a final resort, it is a great opportunity for those looking to tend to their relationship.  I take a pluralistic approach, which means I draw on a variety of frameworks, always placing the wellbeing of the relationship at the centre.

Training & Qualifications

I am registered with the BACP, holding an Advanced PGDip in Humanistic Integrative Therapy (BACP), and a post-qualifying training in Intimate Partner Therapy (COSRT).

My areas of specialism and interest include early life experiences, developmental trauma, attachment, adult relationship dynamics, neurodiversity, and the role of psychotherapy and community.  I welcome anyone looking to explore and understand themselves better.

Before I trained as a therapist, I worked in the arts and arts accessibility for over a decade, as well as in education, the charitable sector and in the corporate world, too.
